Artsea

2 bedrooms + loft | 3 bathrooms |
5 people max | Dogs OK | Kids Welcome | Guest Reviews |
“Artsea” is one of those one-of-a-kind homes that Sea Ranch is so well known for. Modernist components blend with traditional north coast materials and styling. The owners are artistic and have a great sense of color and space. You’ll enjoy quality and comfort in each room, but there isn’t a drop of pretense or stuffiness in Artsea. This house is a conversation piece, and a stay here will be sure to supply many smiles and happy memories. The design is unusual and provides for intense height and light, and a free flow of indoors to out. The Sea Ranch west meadow is a delightful setting, and Artsea manages to be fun and comfortable home, while also a part of the meadow and natural surroundings.
Opposite this patio is the entry patio with the spa. The elongated house stretches between the patios. Just on the right edge of this photo, inside the glass wall, is the dining area, rectangular living room with comfortable seating, kitchen, and two bedrooms and bathrooms.
The exposed aggregate floors in the front part of the house are a treat. It sounds nuts, but the cozy area rugs and abundant color and light compliment the casual aggregate and it comes off sophisticated and whimsical.
The loft over the living room has a day bed, and the TV. Also in the loft is a round table with seating for a hand of cards, a board game, or snacks. There is also a bathroom with shower in the loft.
Master bedroom has an en suite bathroom, queen bed, fun floor and a door out to the dining patio.
Guest bedroom has an adjacent bathroom, and a door out to the spa patio.
There are trails all around Artsea, and one can walk to the beach in under 10 minutes and to the pool in just a few more minutes. The bluff trail is just across the street and the views are tremendous.
Artsea offers Verizon My-Fi internet access.

Pilar

2 Bedrooms + office | 2 Baths |
6 max | Dogs OK | Kids OK | Guest Reviews |
Medieval construction methods meet 21st Century styling and amenities right here on the northern Sonoma coast! Pilar is an elegant example of Post and Beam construction. The house was built by local artisan and Timberpeg builder Michael Thomas, with a lot of hands-on participation from the owners. If you appreciate architecture, you will enjoy Pilar’s tantalizing curves as they wrap around the rugged strength inherent in this traditional exposed timber construction technique.
Clothing the beautiful “bones” is the timeless appeal of the Arts-and-Crafts style. Almost like accessories for an outfit, there are a number of decorative but very functional details in every room. There is beautiful glass in the doors, rich fir accents and trim, and great photography and other art. Pilar allows one to enjoy modern day, high-end accommodations in a world-class destination location while at the same time evoking the fabled days of Art Deco and martinis! It seems someone wants to remind you that there is time to truly relax and appreciate one’s company and surroundings.
The main floor contains an open kitchen-dining-living area. The kitchen is beautifully equipped and provides workspace for the creative cooks in your group. You can also grill outdoors on the patio with the gas BBQ. The living room keeps cozy with a gas fireplace, and includes a great audio/visual set-up with satellite TV/DVD and music/CD/MP3 system.
The bedroom has a queen bed, and the adjoining bathroom sports a claw-foot tub with hand-held shower.
Upstairs you first come to the office, graciously appointed with a work desk, a comfy futon for sitting or sleeping (makes into a queen bed).
Next is the master suite; more like a retreat room, really. There is a sitting area, gas fireplace, television, queen bed, and a gorgeous bathroom.
For outdoor fun there is a large hot tub on the patio off the dining area.
And Pilar is just steps away from one of the most dramatic walking trails ANYwhere! The bluff trail at Sea Ranch leads north in a few minutes to Gualala Point Park. The northern end of the bluff trail is a very large sandy beach which has the powerful Pacific on one side, and the usually tranquil Gualala River on the other other. At almost any time of day you can enjoy many kinds of birds along the trail and the shorelines. If you’re sharp-eyed, you may catch a glimpse of a river otter, or maybe a migrating whale will spout and show off! Deer and rabbits forage nonchalantly in the Park meadows and woods, and throughout the Sea Ranch Golf Links which meander along the north edge of The Ranch. Rounding out the local wildlife might be raccoons, skunks, foxes, and many birds of prey. Call soon to reserve your time in this amazing place.
**Allergy Notice: Owner has a cat in the house occasionally.**

THANK YOU FOR SHARING IN “SERENDIPITY”
Much of what makes our home so exceptional is the unique setting. Please review the following to understand and appreiciate your part in sustaining this singular experience.
PARKING GUIDELINES
The single lane drive passes two other private residences and terminates at Serendipity. There is room for ONE CAR to park at the house. ALL OTHER VEHICLES are expected to park along the shoulder of Sedalia or Hubert roads. To drive out from Serendipity, please turn around carefully in the parking area and drive slowly forward out to the road. Children and pets share this lane. And of course, never use a neighbor’s driveway to turn around in. (If you have a large vehicle, you may prefer to simply park on Sedalia and walk in, at least unil you get the lay of the land.)
COURTESY TO NEIGHBORS
Night sky views, and natural night ambience are revered in rural settings. Please remember to turn off ALL outside lights when not in use, and certainly by 10pm. That special ambience also includes the peaceful stillness with the lull of the ocean and our natural nightlife, so quiet time for humans starts at 10pm. Use of the hot tub after dark should be in keeping with these guidelines.

Well, the supplies are all put away, the equipment is all organized. Internet, two flat-screen TV’s, stereos, videos…La Boussole has developed into a lovely and very nicely equipped home. Please be in touch to reserve your getaway while there are still openings for the summer. This Sea Ranch home is a stand-out for many reasons!
“La Boussole” translates to The Compass, named to evoke a place to become clear, and to re-orient oneself. Expanded around a central enclosed courtyard, this large vacation home provides a true base for a completely refreshing getaway. You’ll find ample spaces, with many options for privacy or separation when needed. There are also several areas for regrouping when it’s time to come together. Outdoor living is easy in the courtyard which is nicely sheltered from our mistral wind. The private courtyard includes a lawn, large deck, large hot tub, charcoal BBQ, and plenty of seating and is flanked by the studio and the house.
The house is split-level, and offers a master bedroom and bathroom at one end, and two bedrooms and two baths at the other end. In between, is the large ocean-view dining room right off the kitchen, then up a few steps to the roomy living room with its walls of windows and large fireplace.
The studio is a huge, bright open space for watching TV, relaxing, reading, gazing at the beauty outside, as well as additional sleeping space. There is a small desk in the loft for those who may need a work or study area. The loft also provides a casual seating/lounging arrangement. There is a half-bath in the studio.
While inwardly protecting the wonderful courtyard, La Boussole also opens brightly to her wild and beautiful north coast surroundings. Not far from the shore, one can gaze out at crashing waves and broad ocean views, and enjoy the rugged coastal and hillside expanses. Hiking is a cinch! The trail is just a few feet from the front door, and presents a choice of bluff, hillside or meadow rambles. And a short distance on foot will bring you to the Ohlson Ranch Center pool and tennis, just beyond the Stengle Beach access.
A recent acquisition for new owners, La Boussole has undergone a loving transformation. Be one of the first to experience this lovely vacation home, and set your own new course!
